In recent days, US professor Sheree Lin, Mr. Holmes and film director Frank Lin visited BAI to give courses and lectures. Vice President Han Jiugen, on behalf of BAI, met the delegation. The Department of Postgraduate Students, Department of Foreign Languages, Division of Grassroots Party Schools and Department of International Cooperation and Exchange participated in the activities.
From May, 24th to June, 7th, the three guests opened courses of “Speak English in 9 days” for our graduate students. The courses lasted for nine days and were designed to raise the interest of the students to learn oral English and form good habit in pronunciation. Through the courses, the students became more willing to open their mouths and speak English.
In addition to courses, the three professors delivered lectures on several occasions. On May, 30th, they delivered a lecture under the title of “How to tell Chinese stories, the lessons from the film-making in Hollywood” for trained cadres from Pinggu Party School. On June, 3rd, the Department of International Cooperation and Exchange and Department of Foreign Languages cooperated to present a lecture by the three under the theme of “The US culture from the perspectives of education, language and films”. Wang Xiao, Director of the Department of Foreign Languages, was the chairperson. Staff members from various departments and students attended the lecture. On June, 5th, the professors communicated with the four visiting scholars to the US selected this year, answering their questions about academic study and living in the US.
The “Speak English in 9 Days” activity, including the lectures, extended the horizon of the students, enriched the content of education and boosted foreign exchanges between our staff and US professors.
