On March, 21st, Professor David English from Department of Law of University of Missouri visited BAI and engaged in academic exchanges with teachers and students from Department of Law, Department of Sociology, Department of Public Administration and other departments of BAI. Jin Guokun, Director of Department of Law, chaired the discussion during which Professor English lectured on “Legal Challenges to Achieving an Age-Friendly Society in the US”. Professor English mainly introduced nine legal challenges, namely employer pensions, demographic challenge, social security, health care, consumer fraud, long-term care, guardianship, planning for incapacity, health care decisions and elder abuse. After the introduction, he held heated discussion with the representatives present over his speech, such as the issues of 401(k) and the retirement age.
Professor English was the reporter for the Uniform Trust Code, Uniform Adult Guardianship and Protective Proceedings Jurisdiction Act and Uniform Health care Decisions Act. His research areas are trust law and elder law.
