From October, 28th to 31st, 2013, the International Forum on Social Security was held in Hanoi by Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics and Public Administration Area I. Professor Ga Rida and Adjunct Professor Li Bing from Department of Sociology attended the forum and delivered speeches under the topics of “The social security policies in China and their development future” and “The social services for disabled elders in Beijing”.

The theme of the forum was “The social security policies under the background of global economic crisis”. Over 60 experts from the US, Australia, Netherlands, China, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam were present at the forum. The organizers collected the 31 English articles and conducted exchanges in writing. Among them, 11 articles were selected for the exchanges. There were three topics during the discussion, namely “Social security concept, methods and characteristics”, “Problems concerning social security and international experience”, and “the development trend of social security and policy suggestions”. The discussion of articles covered three sections, presentation, comments by experts and free discussion. English and Vietnamese were the languages used during the conference. Besides, simultaneous interpretation was provided also in the two languages.
The two representatives from BAI carefully selected topics and made delicate preparation. The articles submitted and their speeches won high attention from present scholars, especially those from Vietnam. The aging issue in China, social security undertaking and the caring for the elders in China as well as Chinese experience became the widely debated topics on the forum. This helps deepen our international cooperation and exchanges with other countries in the field of social policies.
