On 19th April of 2010, the department of Sociology, department of Scientific Research, and department of International Cooperation and Exchanges jointly hosted an academic discussion on The Current Sweden Social Welfare System, Its Reform and Development. Ms Yin Zhengyuan, a Swedish of Chinese origin from the School of Humanity of the University of Uppsala and responsible for China program, gave a keynote speech and exchanged her opinions with the participants i.e. the faculty of the department of Sociology, some staff from the department of International Cooperation & Exchange and the department of Scientific Research and some teachers and graduate students from BAI as well.

Ms Yin lectures in BAI
In her lecture, Ms Yin shared with BAI participants on the past and present of Sweden’s unemployment security, education, health, elder-care and housing system based on her 23 years’ working and living experience there. In addition, she also clarified in depth on some misunderstandings about the system by Chinese people.
In the 3-hour lecture and the follow-up Q&A session, Ms Yin answered in patience many questions raised by the participants. All students and teachers reflected they had learnt a lot about Swedish social welfare system and culture through this academic activity, which enlightened them a lot.
