Dr. Yang Ni, from the Department of Public Management,
visited the Blavatnik School of Government at University of Oxford from February
to October 2017. The visiting topics are “the comparison of health reforms
between China and the UK”, “urban governance in the big data era” and “lean
government in cities”. Her supervisor is Professor Jonathan Wolff, a famous
English philosopher, national policy adviser and the Head of public policy at
Blavatnik School of Government.
Oxford
University is the oldest university in the English-speaking world, with a
history of nearly a thousand years. It has trained 26 British Prime Ministers,
over 30 leaders from more than 10 countries and many Nobel Prize winners. The Blavatnik
School of Government, unveiled by Prince William, is the first government
college in European universities. Its vision is "a world better led, a
world better served and a world better governed”. Its teachers and students are
from more than 70 countries and regions all over the world.
During the visit, Yang Ni conducted a lot of researches and practices. In
research, she attended academic lectures such as the "Elite Interview
Methodology" and "Utilitarianism", research methods training
courses, weekly faculty seminars and world-class international academic
conference such as "Governmental Challenges in 2017",
"Priorities in Policy Practice "and "the One Belt One Road
Summit ", which greatly expanded the academic horizons and laid the
theoretical foundation. For the practices, she conducted field researches in the
city hall, mobile market, NHS institutions and public service contractors in
London and Oxford and accumulated a large amount of first-hand materials for
research and teaching.
Through the visit, she accomplished five articles and one book chapter. First,
she conducted an academic interview with Professor Wolff, and published the
article "The Contemporary Value of Marx Studies - An Interview with
Professor Jonathan Wolff", onExpanding horizons; Second, she continued the project research on garbage
classification and formed two advisory reports which were published on the Achievements
Report of Beijing Municipal Social Sciences and China Environment News; third,
combined with the research in the UK, she wrote three papers on the "Internet
+" administrative examination and approval, urban lean management and
emergency management in the big data era which respectively published ine-government,city management and science and technologyandQinghai ethnic studies. Fourth, she completed the relevant chapters
on the British health reform of her academic monographs.
Based on the fruitful stay in Oxford University, Dr.Yang Ni has established
good friendship with her supervisor and relevant scholars and initially formed
the research ideas and teaching plans for the next three years.
