On June 27,Professor
Steven M Shardlow from Keele University gave a lecture onThe Grand
Challenges for Social Workfor BAI faculty, mostly from the Department of Sociology and other fellow
researchers from Renmin University of China.

The term “Grand Challenges” hasbeen used with increasing frequency in the past few years across a number of
disciplines to refer to the pressing, significant issues that confront these
disciplines.In his lecture, Prof. Shardlowseeksto identify some of the Grand Challenges for
social work and pose questions about how these shouldbeaddressed to open a
window for discussion about the nature of the social workinfuture.
The lecture ended
with heated discussions on hot issues concerning this topic, in areas of social
work, social care, social counseling and social education.
The lecture was
second of its kind since BAI signed a MOU with Keele University in this June.Professor Steven
M Shardlow, an Academician of the Academy of Social Sciences (UK), is Head of
the School of Social Science and Public Policy in Keele University.
