Visiting Scholar Pang Yu is Back from University of Cambridge

Dr. Pang Yu from the Department of Leadership came back to BAI after visiting the Department of Sociology at University of Cambridge for six months from March to September, 2017.


The Department of Sociology at the University of Cambridge is a world-leading center for teaching and research in Sociology. Some of the best-known figures in British sociology – including Anthony Giddens, Michael Mann, John Goldthorpe, have lectured here. It offers a unique environment in which to study sociology and to pursue sociological research at the cutting edge of the discipline.

  

During the visit, Dr.Pang was guided by Professor Patrick Baert who is the fellow, tutor and Director of Studies at Selwyn College, Cambridge. Her ongoing projects topics are the governance model of internet emergency incidents and the leadership of online public opinions in age of big data, which are funded by the National Social Sciences Fund and Beijing Social Sciences Fund. Professor Baert guided her in the study of the programs and provided some great advice.

 

In addition, Dr.Pang participated in more than 10 lectures, workshops, conferences on new media, political communication and crisis management etc. She met many well-known academic scholars and learnt a lot from them. At the end of visit, Dr.Pang has completed 3 academic papers, 2 research reports, and a case study on terror attack.

 

Dr.Pang said, “I really appreciate the opportunity to be a visiting scholar at University of Cambridge. It's been an opportunity for me to think more about what the next chapter of my life will bring. Thanks for the support of my colleagues from BAI and the Beijing Municipal Foreign Affairs Office. ”
