An academic seminar between BAI and University of Georgia

On June 15th, a delegation of 8 members from the University of Georgia in the United States visited BAI. Chunming Zhou, the committee member of BAI, held a symposium on social management and social service in China and the U.S, which is attended by the scholars from both sides.


Citing the experience of Dongcheng District in Beijing, Prof. Rida Ga, the director of the department of sociology, introduced the basic information on social grid management, with special emphasis on the current approach of ‘improving social management by promoting public service’ in China. Associate professor Bing Li focused on the aspect of social service planned on the Fifth Plenary Sessions of the 16th Central Committee of the Communist Party and elaborated on the future role of Chinese government in improving social service. Later, Matt Bishop, the coordinator of operations of Archway Partnership in UGA, and Mel Garber, the director of Archway Partnership, both introduced the mechanisms and current situation of the unique programs and the ways in which resource from social organizations and that from colleges could be integrated. Ree Garrett, the director of communications from Washington County Regional Medical Center, and Laura Bland Gillman, the Archway Public Health Professional, illustrated the success of the Archway program by citing the example of their experience in the state of Georgia, especially how newly-developed local hospitals could provide public service in a commercially sustainable manner. After the presentations, both parties further discussed the related topics and reached preliminary consensus on mutual cooperation in the realm of public service research.
