From October 14th
to 18th, 2019, a five-member delegation led by Vice President Han Jiugen
successfully concluded a five-day visit to US.
The visit was at
the invitation of Harvard Kennedy School and Rand Corporation. They carried out
face-to-face exchanges with the above-mentioned organizations on high-end think
tank, scholar visits and the possible cooperation between each other.
On October 16, the
delegation went to Ash Center for Democratic Governance and Innovation of
Harvard Kennedy School. The director of Ash Center, Anthony Saich and Senior
Adviser Arnold M. Howitt warmly welcomed the delegation and introduced the
basic information of Harvard Kennedy School, compared the views on the traditional
concept of the public management and the new one. On behalf of BAI, Vice
President Han Jiugen introduced the information of civil servant training and
think tank research in BAI, and made comments and suggestions on further
strengthening academic exchanges and cooperation, especially teacher training
and other specific projects.
On October 17, the
delegation exchanged with the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International
Studies in Johns Hopkins University to conduct work discussions and academic
exchanges. Six experts including Prof. Mao Xuefeng (Andrew C. Mertha), head of
the China Project Team, warmly received the delegation. The two sides frankly
exchanged the views on how to play the role of think tanks in social governance
and social development.
On October 17, the
delegation visited the internationally renowned think tank, Rand Corporation
(Washington Branch) for research and discussion. The two sides reached many
consensuses on further academic exchanges and think tank research in the
future.
This visit to the
United States achieved the intended purpose. Through frank and deep exchanges,
they have enhanced mutual understanding in some field, expanded the new space
for international cooperation, and further enhanced the influence of BAI.
